阪神・淡路大震災から30年。

2016年1月17日に神戸新聞の一面に掲載された文章を、毎年必ず思い出します。

 

 

阪神・淡路大震災から21年目。

今年はじめて、成人式に参加したすべての新成人が震災後の生まれでした。

1995年1月17日を知らない世代。

彼らは、あのおぞましい揺れを知らない。

火災で真っ赤に染まった地獄のような空を知らない。

永遠と思えるほどつづいた余震の恐怖を知らない。

それは、まちがいなく幸福なことである。

でも、今だから言える。

彼らは、限界を超えたあの状況でも、お互いを思いやり、助け合っていた人間の優しさを知らない。

圧倒的な逆境の中でも立ち上がり、復興に向かう人間の強さを知らない。

神戸の復活を、奇跡の復活だという人がいる。

そんなのはウソだ。

奇跡なんかひとつも起こらなかった。

すべては、努力であり、信念であり、必然だった。

それは震災を知っている私たちが語り継がないといけないことかもしれない。

あの時の経験を活かして、この街を、この神戸を、もっと安全で安心して暮らせる街にするために。

話そう。伝えよう。あの日のことを。

今の子どもたちは全員があの震災を知りません。

震災、復興、防災、人の強さ、大事なものを失う悲しさ、命の大切さ。

いろいろ感じてほしいです。

 

Is it happy not to know about “that day”?
21 years after the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake occurred.
For the first time this year, all new adults who joined the coming-of-age ceremony were born after the earthquake.
A generation that doesn’t know January 17th, 1995.
They don’t know that horrible ground shaking.
They don’t know that hellish sky that turned red due to the fire.
They don’t know the terror of the aftershocks that seemed to go on forever.
It is absolutely happy.
However, now we can say.
They don’t know the kindness of people who showed consideration and helped each other,
even in that terrible situation that went beyond the limit.
They don’t know the strength of people who stood up and worked for reconstruction
even in that overwhelming adversity.
Some say that the reconstruction of Kobe is a miracle.
That is a lie.
Not even one miracle happened.
That was all their efforts, beliefs, and it was bound to happen.
That may be a matter that we, those who experienced the earthquake, must pass down.
To make this town, this Kobe, a safer and more secure place to live by building on the experience.
Let’s talk and tell the story of that day.
